If you find yourself needing some extra space around your home, either to run your small business or just to relax with friends and family, a custom garden building could be exactly what you need.
By taking advantage of any outdoor space you have, a contemporary garden room built to your exact specifications and design requirements will provide the extra room you need without the construction limitations of traditional home extensions like a conservatory or orangery. A garden room promises year round use for a variety of applications, from a home office or cinema to a gym/fitness studio.
This guide will cover some of the excellent features we provide for our high-quality, low maintenance garden rooms such as exterior cladding and innovative panels for your internal walls.

Doors
The doors you choose for your garden room are important not only for access and entry but also the security of your room.
At Garden Retreats, we offer two classic styles for our pods: bifold doors and patio doors. Both of these systems are highly secure, with high quality locking systems and strong aluminium frames that are resistant to break-ins.
Each of these styles has some considerations to bear in mind before installation. For example, while the panels in a bifold door system will fold into one another to create a huge opening space, when the doors are closed this view will be slightly interrupted as each pane of glass in the system will have its own frame.
Likewise, patio doors consist of one individual frame dividing the panels, and one panel simply slides behind the other. This does not create the potentially intrusive stack seen with bifold doors, but does mean the sliding doors do not provide a huge, easy-flowing entrance like bifolds do. Access and spatial efficiency are two important factors to bear in mind, especially if you want a small pod where space will be limited.

Wall panels and floor tiles
Our Garden Retreats pods come with your choice of wall panels and floor tiles as standard. Our wall panels are wipe-clean, fire-proof, scratch-proof, long-lasting and available in six colour options. These are stone and marble-inspired, or you can even upgrade your panels to create a feature wall using your own hi-res images or logos.
Our luxury vinyl floor tiling is available in 19 different styles ranging from classic grained wood-effect to soft stone. Unlike real wood or stone panels, our floor tiles are light, easy to install and easy to maintain without compromising on style. The design has a K-Guard surface which is scratch and stain-resistant, and compatible with underfloor heating.
Our guide to Garden Retreats wall panels and floor tiles explains the styles and designs we offer for our pods in more detail.
Composite cladding
Our pods are clad in composite material, which offers many benefits compared to alternative cladding materials such as wood. These include a resistance to pests like termites, minimal maintenance, fire-resistance, durability and longevity.
This cladding is available in three classic colour options (black, brown and grey) so you can customise the outside of your pod to complement the interior design as well as your main house and the garden space surrounding it. For example, large garden room wrapped in brown cladding would look excellent in a garden located in the rural setting of the countryside.
We have a guide to our composite cladding that explains the benefits of this material and the different colour options we offer.
Roof terrace and composite decking
Because the materials we use to construct our pods are so strong and durable, a luxury garden room from Garden Retreats will be incredibly structurally sound. This means you can install some optional add-ons during your initial installation or at a later time in the future.
These optional extras include a roof terrace with spiral staircase and composite decking. A roof terrace is an excellent way of adding even more luxury to your bespoke garden room, providing a beautiful space that can be used from day to night. This will be the envy of your friends and family if your garden room functions as a home bar, but can also be used for growing plants and fresh produce.
The decking we offer is made from the same composite material as our cladding and is available in the same three colour options, so you can match the decking on your pod to its exterior cladding. This decking is strong and stable so can comfortably carry the weight of garden furniture, gym equipment, art materials and anything else you keep in your pod.
